As I understand it, after knocking the socks off the listening public on a radio show in 1936, the next year on this day the ventriloquist Edgar Bergen & his wooden partner Charlie McCarthy were given a regular spot on the Chase and Sanborn Hour.
I’m totally flummoxed at how a ventriloquist act was a radio hit. And! It lasted until 1956…
