Yesterday while driving to a wedding rehearsal I received a call telling me the member of the congregation in intensive care was worsening. After the rehearsal, such sweet young people, charming, smart, fun to be around; I dashed to the hospital. There his wife said that it was time, she’d consulted with the family and their doctors and they were scheduling removing the breathing tube – for today.
So, today the tube comes out and we will wait.
This afternoon I conduct that wedding. Tomorrow morning I get to say a blessing at an adolescent’s Quinceanera. And then, some family time, Jan & I drive up to Boston to take in Leonard Cohen.
For me pulling all this together is that the subject of the sermon, which in a slightly expanded version will be delivered later on this Sunday at an old and dear friend’s ordination: is on ministry.
Ministry means to serve.
Some times it all comes together.
Life, death and everything.
