No, there aren’t actual placards out there. It’s hardly ever overt, although sometimes it is. But leaders can crave this kind of fanfare, this kind of adulation. And just as critical is that many people need someone to adore. The more popular their leader, the more they feel better about themselves. It’s codependence, but with a different kind of addiction.
