FREEBIE FRIDAY: “friends”

Ah, the comfort of true friends! Jesus restores a man. He wants to follow Jesus and work for him. No. In Mark 5:19 Jesus says that he’d rather the man go home to his friends and just talk about what the Lord has done for him and the mercy he’s been shown. That’s friendship: it’s where you can just talk about what’s happening in your life without someone saying, “Well, what are you going to do about it?”

We need friends that we can just be completely comfortable with… people who don’t judge us, question us, challenge us. These things are fine sometimes, but they can’t define the relationship or else it isn’t friendship. The Jesus of the gospels understood this and told a man that rather than commit to full time discipleship he should enjoy true friendship. Something he hadn’t experienced in quite a while. I’m going to spend some time with such friends tonight.
