cartoon: sinner’s prayer fail

I share the anxiety of most parents of older teenagers. We want to hear them say the right words. As long as they say the right words and exhibit the proper behaviors then we are happy. We can let our deepest anxieties about them relatively rest. The codes of our conventions are so crucial for our fear-based survival mechanisms that we seldom look beneath their thin veneer. We ignore the fact that they only provide a superficial comfort and delay our inevitable self-examination. But we think a comfort of any kind suffices.
