commissioned watercolor: enduring moon

This watercolor that I completed today was commissioned by someone who loved the Freebie Friday version of it. He asked if I could do one similar for him as a gift for his wife. So here it is:

I call it “Enduring Moon“. It is a watercolor on Arches 300 lb. coldpress acid-free cotton rag paper, measuring 5″x7” (12cm x 18cm).

I’ve been meditating all day on the fact that my beliefs are not the same as the object of my beliefs. But at the same time the mind makes the object of my beliefs an image, an idea, in my mind. Also, who is this “I” that believes but the I that I’ve constructed in my mind? So the belief, the believer and the believed are all manufactured products of the same mind.

This afternoon I went out in the snow and smoked my pipe while meditating on this thought. I would like to report to you this: when the mind is challenged by such questions, and when one follows these questions to their roots, that beyond all this there is Peace, Serenity and Benediction.
