Have you ever felt micro-managed? You know what it’s like: every move, even every thought and feeling, is monitored and measured. Even your most intimate details are scrutinized.

One leader once told me I misunderstood freedom. He said a train is free, but it is only free when it stays on the rails. What he was telling me was that I’d lost my way and he knew exactly the parallel route I was to take.

I determined right then I wasn’t a machine. I wasn’t a train. I wasn’t a puppet on strings.

I am a human being. I am a maverick. And the kind of freedom I know is breathtakingly beautiful.
