new Sophia drawing: “Vulnerable”

I saw this image as I was contemplating Sophia. I wanted to show her vulnerability more graphically. I thought immediately of the baby seal… one of the most vulnerable animals on the planet. As I wrote on facebook last night: just because you are vulnerable doesn’t mean you should be slaughtered.

I appreciate the discussion that ensued. I admit I don’t understand women. But I try. There’s something very vulnerable about Sophia, symbolized by her nudity and exposure. But there is also something very strong and courageous about her. Mysteriously, her vulnerability and her strength aren’t mutually exclusive.

She’s beginning to learn and embrace it.
