Is it really safe to come out? The fear of repercussions, immediate or eventual, is too often well-founded.

When someone gathers the enormous courage and takes the incredible risk of coming out, especially after being encouraged to do so, are you doing your part to make it as safe as possible?

After all, when one comes out, what he or she is doing is exposing a significant component of identity.

That’s usually why one comes out: everything else has been tried to no avail.
