men managing the cross

men managing the cross

I titled this “men managing the cross” because, upon observation, this seems generally to be the case when it comes to the church. Although, individually, both men and women are prone to manage the cross.

W. H. Auden wrote, in The Age of Anxiety:

We would rather be ruined than changed.
We would rather die in our dread
Than climb the cross of the present
And let out illusions die.

Not only do we do this personally. Communities do as well. Visionary thinking in the church is compounded effort to avoid the present reality of the cross.

I’ve written a book, illustrated with my cartoons, that wrestles with this issue titled Without a Vision My People Prosper. Check it out.
