Happy New Year 2014: Come In Like a Wrecking Ball!

Well it’s New Year’s Eve today, so I figured I’d do an inspirational cartoon celebrating the coming of 2014.

My most popular cartoon of 2013 was “The Public Stoning of Miley Cyrus” with over 53,000 shares!

I like Miley Cyrus’ work. She has strong, memorable melodies and often honest, authentic, meaningful lyrics. Of course I don’t agree with everything she says and does, but I don’t require that of anybody. Not even myself.

Her song “Wrecking Ball” with the video of just her face while she sings it was probably the most moving song of all for me in 2013. She’s approaching half a billion views with that video alone! I personally know a few women who had serious breakups this year and this song articulated exactly what they were going through. Essentially, the song is a confession that she gave it everything and lost it all. She’d never hit so hard in love and it didn’t work out.

I don’t know Miley Cyrus, but I’m sure she’s a wrecking ball type of person. That is, she is determined to give everything she’s got. She’s always all in. FOr her, it’s all or nothing.

And this reminds me of me. I want to live 2014 less cautiously. More fearlessly. I want to give all my love, not measured. I want to use my edit button less. I intend to not censor myself as much. I don’t want to parcel myself out. I don’t want to live a fractional life. Worrying about how others feel and what they think about me is sliding down the list even as I write this. I want to give it everything. Why live partially?
