The most important implications of Christ for the church is that the church is not exclusive but inclusive. The primary message is that we are all brothers and sisters and that we are one. The local church can only be a microcosmic manifestation of the pre-existing reality of that unity… a living example… a visible picture of what it looks like and means to be One. Those who cried exclusivity and established boundaries and drew lines of distinction and erected... Read more

Although I love all my Sophia drawings, this one is in my top five. It captures her curious and intelligent spirit for me. It doesn’t make real sense that she would come across a library of books abandoned in ruins in the forest. But it does make sense that often we can only find our truest selves and our deepest intelligence by going deep into the wilderness alone. All my Sophia prints are available for $25 right now. I really like this image. I think it would make a great t-shirt. Come to think of it, I have tons of images that would be great for tees, greeting cards, posters… you name it. I just don’t have the time. Maybe I should partner with someone?! Peace! Read more

There are so many things wrong with what this man is saying. This actually happened to two of my Muslim women students. They are from Saudi Arabia. (I teach English as a Second Language at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, Canada). Beautiful people. They were walking along the street in the snow when a man approached and yelled this at them. He seriously frightened them. Who does that? This happens all the time to my international students.... Read more

How much more mysterious our spiritual journeys get the further we walk into them. I don’t know about you, but the further I go the less I know. I am less certain but more peaceful. Things are far more complicated but far more simple. And I hope I’m getting wiser. Read more

I’m reading Slavoj ZiZek’s book again, Living in the End Times. He suggests a strategy of democracies to prevent class struggle from happening on a large scale… to prevent the poor majority from discovering their own strength. The way this is accomplished is by dividing the large Federal majority into smaller units called States. This way the strength of the poor majority in each State, if they rebel, will not spread beyond the State’s borders. Hopefully. At the same time,... Read more

We all know the dangers of having a cold and calloused heart. It is a lonely life. Loveless. Austere. And we all know the dangers of feeling too much. Loving too much. When you give your heart away you are taking the risk of getting it broken. But this kind of life, I think, is warmer, happier and more passionate. I choose to feel. There are effective strategies for when I notice my heart has become cold and calloused. And... Read more

I have a very good friend who reads my blog. (Yes. That’s really true!) This week we were together with others and someone asked me why I called these “prayer from the cell“. I said it was inspired by a book I read years ago my Wurmbrand called “Tortured for Christ” that is about his imprisonment for his beliefs. So the word “cell” is double-entendre for cellphone and prison cell. My good friend exclaimed, “OHHH! I see that now! I... Read more

This isn’t my official launch. Yet. This is my preview notice. But I am happy to announce the publication of my new book: “Without a Vision My People Prosper”. This is what I say about it: David challenges the modern need to formulate visions and set goals for local congregations. He argues that even though vision and goals might be useful for individuals, businesses and other organizations, it is harmful to genuine community. Through a collection of his most relevant... Read more

Let’s not be small-minded. First we must be aware that we are inside a box. We are thinking within a paradigm. Our thoughts fall in line according to the construct we have chosen to embrace. It is a very unsettling thing to let your mind become aware of this reality because then the mind loses its sense of security. And security of the organism is the brain’s number one priority. But this is when growth and even enlightenment begins. Acquire... Read more
