One of the things I found very frustrating within the church was the limitations put upon my mind. Especially for a pastor. I was under constant scrutiny. I know this is true for people all across the church spectrum. Chewing on the same outdated thinking over and over again. Thinking outside of the box is prohibited and punishable. This doesn’t produce transformation. Just conformation. Of course I didn’t live according to the limitations. Of course this got me in trouble.... Read more

I’m always amazed when people naysay nakedpastor for pointing out the abuse that goes on in the church. Many people believe that I obsessively focus on the rare cases of abuse, manipulation, control and silliness, thereby magnifying it beyond its minuscule dimensions. They believe that it is rare and that nakedpastor appeals to a very small band who’ve experienced it. They grow impatient with my constant critique of religious institution and spiritual organization, as well as what they consider the... Read more

Ya… there’s no lack of zombie themes in the bible. Angels are scary. That’s why they are always reported as saying, “Don’t be afraid!” At least they are very, very serious. Halloween’s approaching! Jesus warned: Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. How have things changed? Those Jesus was talking to thought they were doing good. Can we hear the warning? What you see in this graphic cartoon is the version of Christianity that believes we have been... Read more

Some of you might remember this cartoon when I posted it some years ago. And the reaction. But the message is good. Our spirituality can be so hobby. Part time. A compartment of our lives. Unintegrated. Shallow. Empty. Useless. Time to wake up before the breakup! (Download my ebook “nakedpastor 101” for .99¢.) I believe Job is the book of our time. Here’s some things to learn from Job: He never found out why he suffered as he did. His questions were answered with bigger questions. His friends had all the answers… your typically theologically correct ones. Job’s suffering is explained as a meaningless bet between God and Satan. Satan lost. But so did Job. Most often it is better to be silent than to be right. The meaning of suffering is hidden... Read more

Haha old cartoon! I’m just trying to be funny. No offence meant. No offence taken? I admitted last night to a group at the nakedpub that I am far healthier than I was while in the church. This isn’t the church’s fault. It is mine. But I do believe the church can be a system, like any other, that nourishes illness for its own sake. (Download my ebook “nakedpastor 101” for .99¢.) Last night I spoke in Fredericton at what we’re going to call the “nakedpub”. It was awesome. I really enjoyed it. I met some of my online friends for the first time in person. They don’t photoshop their profile pics. They are just as beautiful in person. Beautiful people, inside and out. There were a couple of house-churches/ homegroups there and we talked about getting together again. I shared my cartoons, especially my question ones, and talked about the value... Read more
