We seem to live a life in fear. So, some of us, me included, might be very happy that 2025 is coming to an end. For me, there are two main reasons. One, our current president. I really think that many of us cannot wait until he is either in jail or just out of office. He’s wrecking havoc in our own country, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, the white house itself, the list goes on…

Two, I fractured my wrist in three places and dislocated my thumb, just about two weeks ago. I went 47 years without ever breaking anything, as far as I know. Yes, it’s not my dominant hand. However, I have been trying to learn to use it as if it were. It sucks. Being ambidextrous is really helpful if you were to break your dominant hand. This was not my first reason but a really good one.

So, why I don’t want surgery but will do it anyway if it is required to have full functionality. One word answers that — fear. Yep, fear. Fear, that four letter word that can really mess you up. And yes, the reason I am demanding x-rays again is because I really hope to avoid surgery. So, now let’s figure out how to conquer your—err my —fear.

One really good way is meditation. For one, you can sit and meditate on why you are afraid and work through it. In your head, you can walk through the steps of the task, in this case the surgery. Such as, it’s a simple surgery that has been done before and so on.

Two, you can meditate to relax yourself and forget about it for a while. Go to your favorite place. This otter is going to the beach often lately where it’s sunny and 75.

Ground and center yourself. As the Rev. Foxxy (Sher) Pullen always says in her  Magik 101 classes, this isn’t just something you only do to send healing energy out to the world or a certain person. You should be doing this every day, or as often as you need. It should be part of your daily morning and evening rituals. And it’s OK if you fall asleep grounding and centering. This means that you accomplished your main goal — to relax yourself.

While we ground we dump negatives. Pain is a big negative and it can be dumped. Send it to Mother Earth and let her dispose of it for you. Why not put that fresh clean energy you’re drawing in to good use — on your injury.

Yes, you are a geas. Sometimes dharma sucks too, However, she does a wonderful job on healing others.

Granted I have elders that healed the hairline fracture in a day or two, but not everyone is that fortunate. We can, however, look at the image of an unbroken body part and will our body to return itself to that condition, especially if we;re providing the nutrition and energy to do that.

Another is affirmations. Affirmations can help you conquer many things including fear. This helped me get over my insomnia. No matter what, I didn’t want to sleep.

When I did fall asleep as a toddler, I‘d astral travel to car accidents and fires. I could smell the diesel and saw everything including the blood and gore. My parents told me it was a bad dream, so I didn’t want to sleep. I trained myself to stay up all night and just sleep a bit in the morning. Apparently, I somehow thought in the daylight I was safe.

Now I’ve taught myself to sleep throughout the night with the correct affirmations. Even when I don’t feel tired I still sleep all night. The other thing is now I can basically sleep through anything which can be good. Not waking up in the middle of the night helps you get the rest your body needs. Especially, when it’s only raining outside.

Speaking of affirmations, people I  know had the same surgery before. The Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael, senior co-minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, NJ assured me I’d be okay. She had surgery on both wrists years ago, and she has full movement. She is only two years older than me. Two others at my congregation told me they each had one done too. Again, success stories, I never knew they had surgeries. Sammler-Michael spoke about hers a few times. Additionally, I just learned that my much older cousin had the same surgery after falling on ice. None of them complained about pins and a plate.

As quoted from Frank Herbert’s “Dune,” known as the “Litany Against Fear,” “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear…”

So, let’s start out 2026 on a good note and say goodbye to senseless fear.
