Wednesday

Do you truly believe that God has good things in store for you? How do you view the world? Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Has life been unfair to you, or are you blessed more than you deserve? Is the world out to get you, or are you grateful for all that God has given you? Do you see tragedies and difficulties as proof that life is out to punish you or as another opportunity for God to showcase his faithfulness?

In Jeremiah 29, the people of Israel had suffered the final penalty for their rejection of God: exile in Babylon. Dreams were crushed. Generations were damned to a life away from their homeland. Hope could easily have been lost. But then God gave his people one of the most famous promises in the entire Old Testament:

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:11-12

You may not know what’s coming around the corner. You may not see anything good on the horizon. Your outlook may be bleak, but not God’s. He knows the plans he has for you. Good plans. Grand plans. Plans beyond your ability to comprehend.

God is a loving Heavenly Father that wants to prosper you, not harm you. Take all of the pent up love and affection that you have for a child, and that’s a drop in the ocean of God’s love towards you. The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. God’s plan for you is life, a hope, a future. Wherever you are today, never lose sight of that. God has good things in store for you!

Do you truly believe that God has good things in store for you?
