Habit #3: Think on noble things.

READ IT

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. . . and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9)

Thinking on noble thinks will ultimately lead you to Jesus and will ultimately bring you closer to Jesus. Look at the list given in Philippians 4:8, and see who or what qualifies as being true, noble, just, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Once you add in excellent and praiseworthy, very few things make the cut. I would argue that the best embodiment of these qualities is Jesus himself. Look at how the Bible describes Jesus in Colossians 2:2-3, “Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” 

When you think on noble things, you’re thinking on things that reflect the nature of God or you’re thinking about God himself. How important is it to fix your mind on God? The Bible says in Romans 12, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” If you change the way you think, you’ll change the way you live. Think on noble things; dwell on things that reflect the character of God. Focus your mind on God himself, and watch your life be transformed from the inside out.

God, would you transform me through the renewing of my mind. Would you focus my thoughts on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Amen.

Here’s a great way to think on noble things: memorize Scripture. Use your mental energy and attention to memorize Philippians 4:8 today. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
