I can’t believe it’s been over 2 years since we made our son’s bedroom into a
Train room. After all this time, that boy is still obsessed with trains.
Here are some before shots.
It’s okay, but it was a little bland.
A poor excuse for a side table.
Lots of bare walls.
The niche turned CABOOSE still was the highlight of the room.
I tried a few new arrangements…
And still wasn’t quite satisfied. Our boys begged, pleaded, …asked for bunk beds. Let me remind you that I nicknamed them Rowdy and Raucous? *sigh* Needless to say, my mommy radar was on full tilt, but we thought we’d give it a go and worse case scenario – take them down.
Here’s the Hunk putting them together. We got a steal on a closeout at a local furniture store.
He’s real enthused… can’t you tell!
So up they went!!!
And the boys were SO excited!! but……
I still didn’t like the bare walls. I always envisioned the room being like a sleeping car. Then it hit me!
We went to our local builders big box store, purchased that nasty 70’s paneling and enclosed the bed! The paneling is simply tacked up, so it will be easy to remove when he outgrows his trains.
We hung a picture over the top bunk.
Added a few embellishments….
I REALLY wanted to put curtains around the bottom, but my youngling kept pulling them down, so that didn’t work. We also tried a light and woke up to shattering glass one night after he had been playing with it, so that immediately came down, also!
Although I couldn’t add exactly what I envisioned, the boys love it nonetheless!
The Hunk’s dad made a light for the caboose from old car parts.
It adds so much character.
I found these little knobs at Hobby Lobby for drawer pulls.
So there you have it!
A little boy’s train room just got upgraded to a sleeper car!
I’d love to hear your comments!!! Let me know what you think!
