Handmade Christmas

Handmade Christmas

I don’t know what’s been changing in me, but we are slowly moving toward a Homesteading, Handmade type of family.  We’ve been busy making bread and laundry soaps from scratch and we thought, why not our tree?
We (mostly I) made ornaments from old dictionary pages and sheet music.  The younglings were in for about 10 minutes and bailed on me!

Finger Knit Garland
I finger knit some garland using three strands of yarn, one being the fun ‘tinsel yarn’!  How perfect for homemade garland.

I love how fuzzy it looks and the tinsel yarn captures the lights.

Finger Knitting is sooooo easy – you can find tutes all over the world wide web to show you how.
Handmade Ornaments
We (I…sigh) made doves, and trees and added glitter glue to the edges.

Other unique embellishments I added to the tree were some unusual uses for things.
This is a gift card holder, but I loved the look of the old timey long johns hanging from my tree!
Handmade Christmas Garland
I found the snowflakes with gift tags in the wrapping section.

I had some yarn left over and used the same linen in my tree skirt as wrapped ornaments.

This is my personal favorite.  While we were assembling the tree, Raucous broke about 10 ornaments along with the tree topper!  I put our Santa Hat on the top of the tree for the topper!!
TOO CUTE!
I love the little pops of white in my tree at night.

So there you have it!  Even though my boys bailed on me, they love how it turned out.
A Handmade Christmas that’s easy on the budget.  Now if only we could get our tree to grow!  Guess that’s what after Christmas Clearance is for!
