Are you looking for a new wreath after all your Holiday decor has gone away? I needed a wreath for my front door, but didn’t have extra cash to spend, after all the holiday shopping. I got out my yarn stash and an old straw wreath form and made myself this cute wreath in just an afternoon!

When I was putting all my Christmas decor away, I found an old hay wreath in my closet that was just collecting dust. I glanced over at my wreath I had just removed from my front door and inspiration struck.

Wintertime to me, always means sitting and knitting while sipping pot loads of coffee and I was in a hurry to get all these decorations put away so I could get right back to my winter timing. When I saw that old wreath form, I started rummaged through scraps of yarn to create an easy wreath.

Here’s how I did it:

I chose a neutral color as the base of the wreath and tied a knot around the hay wreath form and started wrapping.

I wrapped and wrapped the hay wreath until it was completely covered.  I like the bumpy, natural look rather than the perfect look I’ve seen in other wreaths. Next I used a chunkier yarn in a charcoal color that I finger knit a cord.

I talked about finger knitting my garland for my tree this past year.  Here’s a great tutorial I used to learn how to finger knit. Using this same technique, I finger knitted until I reached my desired length and wrapped that around the wreath.

I only wanted the wreath partially covered, so I tied the ends off and tucked them into the wreath.

Look at all that texture! I love that contrast of color.

I wish I could give a knitting tute, but I’m a novice.  I, myself, just learned how to knit a i-cord, which I learned that the ‘i’ in i-cord stands for idiot because it’s so easy to do!

Anyway, I knit a long i-cord, and after binding off, I took the i-cord and stitched the ends together to form a flower.

I tied the flowers to my wreath and added contrasting buttons to make each flower pop.
