Turning Recipes Into Tea Towels

Turning Recipes Into Tea Towels
I pinned a blog post a few months ago from Spoonflower.com.  It was a beautiful tutorial from Emma from Hello Beautiful of how to turn family recipes into tea towels.  Spoonflower is an awesome site that makes custom fabrics and wallpaper and decals from your designs! You can also order other patterns from designers.
Emma gave a wonderful tutorial of how to upload your pictures, the correct format needed for printing the desired amount of fabric.
This was going to be a gift for my mother for Christmas, so I chose a recipe special to her from my Great Grandmother.  This is a recipe card in her handwriting that was given to my Mother at her bridal shower.  I had made this into a recipe card for my recipe collection book and added the scrapbooking embellishments. (The link is to my very first blog post!)

Part of the wedding gift was to include quotes for the bride to be, so I used those as the second towel.

Following Emma’s instructions, I made a collage pattern for a 1 yard cut which would yield 4 tea towels.  I ordered the linen-cotton canvas for durability.

The fabric arrived in about 10 days and was absolutely GORGEOUS!
My Great Grandmother’s handwriting looks beautiful on the linen!  It’s recommended that you order a test swatch before your final order, but I didn’t have time so this was the first batch!  No problems at all!
I am by NO MEANS an seamstress, so I simply cut the fabric in two.
I pressed the edges and hemmed them.  Don’t judge my sewing!

It was a perfect,  sentimental gift to give to someone special, like my Momma!
