Do you have left over wood from a flooring project? Here’s a neat way to repurpose the wood into a custom serving tray.
When we ripped up our pink carpet and replaced it with wood flooring, we were left with tons of left over pieces. The flooring guys were willing to haul them away, but I quickly laid myself on them like I was blocking a bulldozer from smashing my child! Okay, not really, but I did firmly express my want, need, DESIRE to keep the scrap wood.
The Hardwood flooring we chose was Cabin Grade Flooring. Basically, it’s the seconds, or rejects, from the factory. Most people want smooth and seamless wood without marks or blemishes, but with the rise of Barnwood flooring, the rough hewn look is more popular. The Cabin Grade flooring offers the look of Barnwood without the astronomical prices.
First we used the leftovers to make a custom countertop for my Coffee Bar.
Look at those knots – love them!
Then my Father in Law took some pieces and created this:
This beautiful custom serving tray with the left over flooring as the bottom.
Pallet Wood was used for the sides of the tray. Everything was sanded down and lightly stained.
Upholstery nails were added to the edges.
Gorgeous!
The knots were left bare and finished with a wipe on poly.
The handles on the sides match nicely with the upholstery nails.
It’s a beautiful piece that was easy to create.
Do you repurpose your wood? What have you created?
