I can’t believe it’s been over a year since our huge kitchen remodel. I am still happy with the results and am still waiting on a new floor, but that’s for another day. I noticed that my walls are lacking. I’m loving the minimalist look, but it started to look too bare. There was an empty space next to our stove that was begging to be filled up.
If you google “DIY EAT Sign”, a billion options come up. I’ve made some before using a plate holder and picture frames (here’s a link), but I waffled back and forth about using metal signs or pallet wood or different frames. I couldn’t make up my mind!
Since this was next to the stove, but I was worried about using metal letters. That corner seems to hold all the steam from any cooking and I thought they would rust. With the cabinet door next to the stove, the pallet wood was quickly shut down because it would have been too thick.
I stumbled upon these letters at Hobby Lobby that were on sale for 30% off
They were thin enough to work with the cabinet door and at that price, I could afford to try it even if it turned out to be a complete DIY Do-over.
After the discount, I was able to score all three letters for 5 and a quarter!
A bit pricier than Hobby Lobby, but you can purchase the same letters here.
I spray painted each letter with Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze to match our kitchen hardware. These letters are made of thin presswood, and the grain opened up a bit when I spray painted them. I thought for sure I’d be trashing them.
To my luck, it made the wood letters look as if there were metal with the mottling of the grain.
I hung the letters using earthquake putty. They’ve been up for months and many seasonal temperature changes and they have stayed put!
Now my empty space is filled, I saved quite a bit of money and now love my little letters!
