I am confident that many other married couples are much like my husband and me. I'm the spiritual, sensitive artist and he is the tough atheist athlete. We have had our arguments but have also grown a lot as individuals because of the worldviews we've opened each other's minds to. Opposites truly do attract each other and can lead to fulfilling, exciting and refreshing adventures as a couple. Although my baby is but several months old, I am already considering the type of education we'd like her to have. The thoughts about how to guide her in learning to navigate her spirtuality flood these considerations, however I currently lean in the direction of public schooling. It seems to make the most sense to protect her from indoctrination that may occur in private school, but we have been riding a thought pendulum because I went to private school and this leaves me feeling some obligation to seeing to it she gets the best education possible - regardless of whether it is private or public. I remember a teacher I adored in middle school blowing all our minds with a simple answer to the question, “What about the other religions?" For 6th graders who had been in Catholic private school our whole lives, this was a pivotal moment. It was a significant moment for me and I sit here decades later, recapitulating the crucial message delivered by this insightful educator.
