Autumn in Japan is very much associated with the Moon, as the moon looks particularly big and bright in the clear autumn sky. The moon is celebrated at O-Tsukimi – the Moon Viewing festival, in which the Japanese make offerings of dumplings and seasonal grass before the moon and traditionally held Moon-viewing parties near water so they could look at the moon’s reflection. The Japanese also take advantage of the clear autumn skies to do a bit of star-gazing; something that’s not always possible in overcast Britain, but keep an eye on your astronomical calendar to see what interesting things you might spot.
