Come the Rapture Your Interwebs Is Down

Come the Rapture Your Interwebs Is Down April 21, 2011

I use Hootsuite everyday. As often as I eat food and use toilet paper. As often as I wash my hands and look out the window to check the weather. Today, it’s down, as well as Foursquare, Reddit and other services relying on Amazon’s cloud service. Twitter is full of folks adrift and a’ranting over the outage.

Between the jokes regarding Skynet becoming self aware last Tuesday and the rumor going around that the Rapture is happening today (although some doomsdayers are hedging their bets saying they obviously meant MAY 21st), the day has a Ragnarok-ish feel.

Hootsuite has become an ingrained habit. I am dependent on it. Without it I am forced to camp out on Twitter and Facebook. To hurry up and wait all day long. Since when did the convenience of social media become such a chore?

Maybe the Governator will yet come to save us all. Maybe Judgement Day will mean my roommates go to their reward leaving the house all to myself. Maybe…

Maybe I should be as dependent on meditation as I am on Hootsuite? Maybe time for music should be as much of a habit? Maybe taking time to reach out to others face to face should be as much of a daily priority?
