I just unsubscribed from a popular tech feed on all platforms: Twitter, Facebook, G+ and Youtube. The person behind the brand produces quality content and I have enjoyed his videos, to the point that I endure his excessive self-promotion. It’s seriously a never ending cascade of Look at me! Subscribe! Watch my videos! People gotta make a living, and if I appreciate your work I will submit to this neediness in order to be updated on your latest work. I... Read more

I like this Maxim. In the world of religion we spend a lot of time trying to think like Gods and other generally incorporeal beings. How should one address an angel? If I were a sea nymph what kind of offering would I want? How does one evolve over centuries, through millennia and via various cultures? If one is Immortal, what does one want or need? Sometimes I hear people talking about Aeons and Ages and the massive millennia long... Read more

I don’t listen to enough Pagan podcasts. I’d be a better person if I did. Tonight I ran across Tim Titus’ post on the Juggler for the 100th episode of The Wigglian Way. I can’t like Tim’s post enough, and you should go read it right now: From the very beginning, The Wigglian Way has been “all about the love.”  In a minority faith, it is so easy to use the platform of a popular podcast to rail against the... Read more

One of the most controversial topics I write about is support for members of our military and patriotism. Regardless, as this Memorial Day approaches here in the US, I’ve been thinking about what it means to me personally. I do ancestor work. One of the most profound ways I honor my ancestors is by researching their history, discovering their names, dates and origins. When I began this work I expected to find a large influx of Irish immigrants about the... Read more

A lot of people I love and admire believe in positive thinking. I’m polite about it. I smile, nod and express appreciation for the good intention behind the platitudes. But I’m not a fan of the positive thinking philosophy. The theory behind positive thinking, or PT for short, is that our thoughts have an incredible ability to influence ourselves and the world around us. This is true to some degree. Human thought has transformed our planet and species. It is... Read more

I’m kind of shell-shocked this morning. I had some unexpected news that got to me. I’m getting ready to pack and bury myself in work and solitude for a long weekend, so I felt I should post something quick for one of the Maxims. And this was the next Maxim. It speaks to the sad story related to me this morning. I’m not going to give details, but this maxim could have kept the story from being so sad. Know... Read more

Wyrd bið ful aræd. (Fate is inexorable.) This is one of my favorite phrases from Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon saga, and it’s grim certainty somehow fits his protagonist, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, like a glove. It seems to dovetail nicely in with Lord Summerisle’s quote from The Wicker Tree: “Can fate be altered? This is a question that every religion has tried to answer, and the answer is almost certainly No.” I’ve been thinking about a lot of big questions lately, and... Read more

Today is the Deipnon, and I will be celebrating it for the third time. My first Deipnon was cleaning intensive, my second paltry, and this one I’ve parceled out a bit over a few days. Other than some dishes, touch ups and reorganizing the pantry, the house is pretty much spotless. So I’m using this Deipnon to completely reorganize my bedroom. I’m looking forward to it. The plant I emptied my Kathiskos, or offering jar, into last month perked up... Read more

I was going to wax eloquent on magic, but I’m not in the mood. So here’s what I find musically interesting right now. Only slightly related to Paganism, although there are Pagan themes and artists in the list… 13. Wendy Rule’s The Lotus Eaters album This album should be used as a soundtrack for a film adaptation of the Odyssey. 12. Dar Williams’ In the Time of Gods album She may not identify as one, but Dar has a Pagan... Read more

Peg Aloi, of The Witching Hour, and I decided to take Google Hangouts On Air for a test drive and explore The Wicker Tree film. Thanks to the power of social networking Alastair Gourlay, executive producer of The Wicker Tree, joined our discussion! It’s two hours long, longer than we intended, but we hope to revisit the subject in a future Hangout On Air, maybe with spoilers next time. I hope you enjoy! Read more
