Are you as tired of the St Paddy’s debunkers as I am? While I support good history and scholarship, it seems like every holiday we have a parade of folks telling us to not be silly. Don’t celebrate All Snakes Day because there is no historical basis. Don’t enjoy turkey with your loved ones too much because of centuries old genocide. Don’t whoop it up on the 21st because the shortest night of the year comes two weeks earlier. I’m... Read more

Been trying to write all day today but too many things are going on and too many thoughts in my head. So I give up. However, as I gear up for tomorrow’s post in which I go “Yay! Snakes!” and Jason shakes his head in exasperation as he once again debunks St. Paddy’s myths, I have this song on my mind. It’s wistful. It’s about seeing things differently. Answering calls others do not hear. And in a way, we each... Read more

I was raised Baptist in the South, so I find Good Christian B***es hilarious. The stereotypes are exaggerated, but I’ve known women like that. Sweet as pie as they stab you in the back. In the South we’ve got holier-than-thou down to a science, and we all know the type. I’ve even got relatives I’m not stupid enough to name here that fit the shoe very well. I’ve enjoyed GCB immensely. These women are awful people who practice double-standards and... Read more

…but then I remember it’s turtles all the way down and relax. I’ve got non-blogging stuff to do, so I’m going to kindly direct you over to Agora. Gus diZerega: “Our conservative and right wing Christian opponents try and frame their position to give them the upper hand.  One of their most effective methods is to point to violence and crime and argue that it is fear of God that keeps people well behaved. This is a frame that once... Read more

My post on Pagan temples had quite a response. I’m going to try to process some of the discussion and address some of the issues that were brought up. It’s a good bit to take in, so I may not get everything in today. First, there seems to be an idea that I’m either unaware or misinformed about CUUPS. If you are a Unitarian-Universalist congregation and organized under their banner then you must be inclusive and accommodating of any Christian,... Read more

Monday’s are awful. This particular Monday is awful as I’m grappling with a situation for which I have no good resolution. I’ve been down all weekend wrestling with this problem, and I’ve been letting myself do a little dreaming. I’ve been thinking about the future and all the good things it holds. Most of my dreams were very personal, but one dream I allowed myself to dream was a really beautiful dream involving our community. I was going to keep... Read more

How do you see the Goddess? The Divine Feminine spoken of in Wicca and other Pagan religions? Monolithic woman, the essence of femaleness, the open-armed Mother? I relate better to male Gods, but I recently had an experience that reminded me of how I found the Goddess so many years ago. Not her name, or stories. Not Pagan literature, but her bright spirit. It was through a specific type of music. There used to be this alternative rock station in... Read more

Possibly the most sickly sweet piece of classical music ever written. So how do you plan to celebrate Ostara? Read more

I need a break. I need a Pagan-free week. I’ve just had too much. I’m tired of trying to discuss our community and faiths and being told that maybe I’m in the wrong religion, or I should just go back to being Christian. I’m tired of trying to discuss X and having everyone respond to Y, because Y is a more familiar argument. I’m tired of people pushing folks away because we are so paranoid about appearing that we try... Read more
