For a lot of us, our holiday to give thanks was back at Mabon, although we ideally give thanks year round. However, it’s still kind of powerful to give thanks as a nation. So here are a few things I’m thankful for: Good Friends: it’s nice to know there are people who are just there for you. Answer the phone when you call. Watch tv with you. Share the calories when you have a craving for decadent desserts. Friends rock.... Read more

Religion provides the solution to something. It identifies a problem, prescribes a method by which to resolve that problem. That resolution in religious terms is known as salvation. While the concept of salvation is almost exclusively identified with the Christian religion in our culture, it actually predates it. Savior is an epithet given to many old Gods, such as Hecate. Salvation from death was the main purpose behind rites such as the Eleusinian Mysteries. As I’m trying to absorb Gregory... Read more

I have less time than I used to for pleasure reading.Starhawk’s The Fifth Sacred Thing has been by my bed for months and I’ve barely made a dent. Yet I treated myself to a lie-in this morning reading a book I was super-excited to get my hands on: Theurgy and the Soul: The Neoplatonism of Iamblichus. I know. You were hoping for Jackie Collins right? I will be thoroughly ashamed of my nerdiness for one moment in atonement. Done. I... Read more

Last night, one of my elders took me on a nighttime adventure. In darkness we took an easy hike to a waterfall for some energy work. When there is very little light, moving water seems to absorb all it can get, glowing in an otherwise dark wood. I cannot “see” energy like my elder can. For her the wood was aglow. For me it remained dark, but I could “feel” the pulse and flow of energy, including the resident spirit... Read more

I’m slipping and sliding on a patch of doubt this morning. Nothing I could write seems appropriate. I don’t have a lot of time to write, and my heart is troubled. However, doubt means one thing: you see how things could be better and it gives you pause. Which path leads to the bright future? Did you choose correctly or do you need to turn around and hit the turnpike instead? My priestess tells me faith is based on experience,... Read more

Cara Schulz of PNC-Minnesota has published the second part of her report on Pagans and the US Air Force, and some of the quotes are quite surprising: “You don’t have to be scared about sharing your religion or think you need to stay in the broom closet about it,” Cadet Johnson says. “People are very understanding. We have officers in charge of us who are very understanding, the Chaplains are very understanding so it’s very easy to be a Pagan... Read more

Back in October I caught the flu. The real deal. Influenza. I lay on my sofa, drooling on my pillow, shivering under blankets and watching reality tv. I am not generally a fan of reality tv. I tend to watch it on very rare occasions, but being sick, I decided to give Sister Wives a go. I watched the first two seasons straight through, broken up by naps and potty breaks. I expected I’d dislike Kody Brown and that I’d... Read more

I’m tired. Emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically tired. I hit the wall awhile back and just kept trying to run. I’m so tired that I’ve been a crappy blogger who’s been busy trying to build walls around herself instead of being the open, laid-bare blogger I was a year ago. A year ago I would have told you I was struggling with this or that in my life. Today it feels like an admission of weakness rather than sharing a... Read more

It is that time of year. The time when you wrap up in a blanket and watch holiday movies. Generally the more sentimental and quirky, the better. And of course, regardless of religious belief, or even feelings about the holiday season, the number one holiday movie is and always will be It’s A Wonderful Life. Sitting down to watch it for the first time this year, I was completely amazed at how relevant it is today. Honest, hard-working people just... Read more

What I love best about the Pagan community is that every time I feel down I read about something amazing happening in Pagandom that just lights me up. Today Cara Schulz at PNC- Minnesota has an incredible article up about Pagans in the military: When potential Military Members join the United States Air Force they usually enter through one of two Gateways To The Air Force.  Future officers attend college at Colorado Springs Air Force Academy and enlisted trainees go... Read more
