I went to an interfaith event hosted by Muslims and featuring Witches as guest speakers last night, and then stayed up very late chatting with my elders over Vietnamese food. It was great and I have had very, very little sleep. I will say what impressed me most that in that room full of Muslims, Witches, Christians and Jews there was genuine goodwill, sharing and friendliness. They were awesome people doing really interesting things. I look forward to meeting up... Read more

Congratulations! As a Pagan you are automatically the final authority due to the principle of Autonomy, and are therefore a Pagan Pope. Being a Pagan Pope is a great responsibility, and do not allow the great number of Pagan Popes lead you to treat your position cavalierly. You speak for all of Pagandom and must not let any lapse escape your notice and correction. Tolerance must be protected at all costs, along with Autonomy. Be vigilant against those who express... Read more

Jason Pitzl-Waters wrote about the recent God’s Wife controversy over at On Faith. As a dude he nailed it, and I suggest you open it in a new tab and read it through before you go further into my rant. Leave a comment and tell him you appreciate what he wrote. I’ve been avoiding this drama because it cuts too close to the bone. It makes my head begin to buzz like angry honey bees. It makes me clench my... Read more

I am tired of the idea we are creating new religion. We aren’t new anymore than the Reformation is new, or than Reform Judaism is new. We may embrace modern forms but we build on ancient foundations. I recently had someone say we “make everything up” in regards to ethics and morals. I answered badly, because I unfortunately can no longer see with Christian eyes. The person who said that had no comprehension that morality pre-dated Christianity, and in fact... Read more

Heavy astrological stuff is going down. That’s the extent of my expertise in things celestial. Yet, you need not gaze at the heavens to know mercury is in retrograde. I have found myself throwing my hands up in resignation several times over the past few days. It feels kind of like you’re walking in squishy mud sometimes. Or that you’re sailing along fine until you trip over your own shoe laces. Often it’s nothing to do with what is said... Read more

I knew a woman who claimed she laid hands on a transmission and healed it. A friend of mine has a relative who can cure poison ivy and oak by rubbing the rash and reciting bible verses. In the film Arranged Rochel goes to a religious woman who performs divination for her. Catholicism has intermarried with the indigenous beliefs of so many cultures that there are several magical systems involving angels and saints practiced around the world. Why do religion... Read more

Nothing is going as planned today. Somehow the tv ended up stuck on a documentary about a female Jewish reporter who was a PhD by 20 and covered some pivotal Jewish history. Not only did Ruth Gruber greet and interview Jewish refugees coming to the US, she also covered the journey of the ship Exodus and captured the picture of the swastika drawn on the Union Jack. One thing she said stuck with me, because it’s something I’d wondered myself... Read more

Being expected to measure myself against monotheistic traditions, values and structures makes me angry. Being expected to rail against Christianity nonsensically makes me angry. Politicians who think making political decisions based on religious precepts is preferable makes me angry. Atheists who write me off as a nut instead of an ally in the fight for separation of church and state makes me angry. Pagans who care more about how I look than how I act make me angry. Christians who... Read more

Mercury is mercilessly in retrograde, the news is ever more dire and gas prices are rising. Where do we find the positive? Where is the sunshine? As I’m sitting here working this morning, glancing over the headlines, seeing the depressing news friends are worriedly posting to Facebook and Twitter, and watching The Borgias, a historical show about one of the more corrupt popes in history and his family, I had a sunshiny distraction. I’m keeping an eye on things for... Read more

Looking down at worn boots and dusty traveling clothes the marks of the journey are easy to see and the road though unclear at times can be recalled. Read more
