Helllloooooooo Baby Pagani! Here at Paganism 101 we do insist on a bit of research. No excuses for sloppy ignorance here! Almost any rumor you have heard about Pagan religions can be easily put to rest with a little digging on the internet. You know what that is, you’re using it to read this blog! It’s the place where the e-mail is! For instance, I go to that handy little search box and type in “burning times”. Ah la, the... Read more

Yeah, you read right. Patheos is an interfaith site and I think it’s important to create a dialogue with other faith traditions. It’s true that Pagan religions don’t proselytize for the most part but that doesn’t mean we don’t have things worth sharing, or new things to learn, in a setting of mutual respect. Being raised Southern Baptist, I’d like to start with Protestant Christians. Supposedly if you put all the religions at a table the Pagans and Protestant Christians... Read more

White Witch day Monthly Ritual of ‘Craft Solidarity’ My coven uses the 11th of each month; it is a power number and well suited; to ensure the day is a visible declaration of pure Goddess intent make it a WHITE day. Wear white clothes, as you do the housework, to the office, tie a white ribbon in daughter’s hair for the day at school, or men wear a white button hole. If you are really motivated bring it into every... Read more

This isn’t going to be a very uplifting Memorial Day post. Nor is it very Pagan, except perhaps in the way that I view collective responsibility and the necessity to uphold it. This time last year, we had just found out that my brother, a Vietnam veteran, had liver cancer. He hadn’t been getting regular screenings from the VA even though he had been exposed to Agent Orange and should have been considered high-risk. They didn’t tell him that. It... Read more

I walk the warrior’s path. I have in my time served a Goddess of war (Sekhmet) and I’m owned by a God of war and military leadership (Odin). I’ve studied martial arts, weapons, shooting, and but for an early back injury, would have gone into the military. I am fortunate that within Heathenry, the values taught along the warrior’s path are generally respected. Before I became Heathen, however, when I moved predominantly in eclectic Pagan circles, my respect for those... Read more

Sitting in the sunshine, I began pondering and for a strange combination of reasons, (our recent general election and the fact that there has been a Rabi convention at the local University), my mind turned to politics and world major ‘cock-ups’ , in particular Hitler and the German treatment of the Jews. Knowing that I am probably more guilty than most at only partaking in the ‘political circus’ when it really matters, I reflected that people like myself need to... Read more

For those of us who are so lucky, we have a lovely three-day weekend before us. Memorial Day is far more than an occasion to exercise your checkbook (or should I say debit card swipe) in pursuit of retail bargains. Rather it is a holiday rooted in American history that has shifted overtime in the American consciousness, and yet it is also a holiday that many in the Northern Tradition have taken to claim as their own. Memorial Day is... Read more

Americans are preparing to celebrate Memorial Day, a day to remember those who have given their lives in the US armed forces. Though its origins date back to 1868, it wasn’t declared a National Holiday until Congress passed the National Holiday Act in 1971. If you’ve never seen a military cemetery around Memorial Day, it’s a very moving event. I had the opportunity to be in Luxembourg for Memorial Day weekend many years ago. I was able to visit the... Read more
