Theoblogy: Christian Spirituality Reading

Theoblogy: Christian Spirituality Reading June 1, 2011

This is a killer reading list from Tony Jones’s blog. These are works centered on Christian Spirituality listed on a syllabus he’s created for a DMin. class at Fuller Seminary.

I love several things about the list: One, it is eclectic – lots of different styles and strands of the conversation are represented. Two, it isn’t just the typical stuff (i.e. Richard Foster & Dallas Willard on spiritual disciplines, etc.). Three, there’s a fairly equal representation of male and female authors. I mention this last one because I’ve been thinking about sexuality a lot lately for the message series on Sex & Sexuality at Redemption Church. I’ve learned a lot from female theologians and pastors lately & am grateful. One of those is Lauren Winner – whose book Mudhouse Sabbath is on my list.
What would you add to the list?
I can think of 3 I would add. 1) The Imitation of Christ, by Thomas A’ Kempis. 2) Phyllis Tickle’s Memoir The Shaping of a Life. 3) Robert Benson has several – Between the Dreaming and the Coming True, or A Good Life.
