This has been one of my favorite football seasons ever. Mostly because my oldest son sat beside me in a chair and we watched a good 25 games together from start to finish. There is something about sports that helps boys relate to their fathers. Also because K-State rocked a great season with their own version of Tim Tebow (Collin Kline).
The season ends tomorrow, on the Sabbath, when more people will watch the Superbowl than will go to church – interesting. College or pro, it was an interesting year.
Here are a few of the most notable stories – what did I miss?
– Jim Tressel resigned in May after we figured out he was running a semi-pro team. Urban Meyer took the job & was slapped with immediate NCAA sanctions.
– Joe Paterno was unceremoniously fired after the Sandusky sex abuse scandal. “Sandusky” becomes the newest circumlocution used by parents to talk about child sex abuse in front of their kids.
– Joe Paterno dies of cancer suddenly – sadly for many.
– Tim Tebow becomes God’s Quarterback
– The BCS fails yet again. Their marketing line for the year was “Every Game Counts.” Which, in the end, it did not – since Alabama lost to LSU and still they played again for the championship.
