‘No’ Absent From #Deplorable Lexicon

White privilege means never hearing, ‘you can’t do that.’

Losing privilege makes certain White people lose their sanity. Small throngs of Tea Party-infused Deplorables gathered for political rallies to protest stay-at-home orders. The height of their hypocrisy and stupidity is breathtaking. President Donald J. Trump is co-signing that hypocrisy and stupidity according to a story in The Hill today.

“LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” Trump tweeted, followed quickly by a call to “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”

“LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!” Trump tweeted, a reference to the state’s expanded background checks and limits on gun purchases signed into law last week.

Some of these same people justified running down protesters blocking roads. (The most deplorable of them cheered Heather Heyer’s murder.) And, interestingly, some protesters wore masks, while participating in an action meant to delegitimize governors’ stay-at-home orders.

Some of them also carried Confederate flags. Wearing hoods might have been safer — and more authentic. Tasting their own medicine is the source of their insanity.

They’ve cheered keeping “illegals” — including children — locked in cages. They wholeheartedly supported a presidential candidate who lied about President Barack Obama’s citizenship and the Central Park Five. After all, people of color must be kept in their place. There’s no doubt some deplorables believe enslaved Black people still belong on plantations.

That ilk enjoys the privilege of living on stolen land, while Native Americans are sequestered on reservations after broken treaties and massacres. Of course, let’s not forget the Asian-Americans sent to live in internment camps during World War II. Their descendants now face acts and threats of violence by the latter deplorable lot — thanks to the White supremacist in the White House.

That deplorable lot — including current members and their ancestors — have celebrated and cherished their right to dictate people of color’s whereabouts. Let’s keep it real. They’ve enjoyed being racist by any means necessary.

For the zombies at the door, the shoe’s on a different foot. Their movements are now being dictated out of caution. But, no one — especially Democratic governors — is going to put Deplorables in a corner or tell them where to stay. They still believe the United States only revolves around white straight people.

That disturbing image is eerily reminiscent of photos that captured deranged white people gathered outside Little Rock High School as it was desegregated. To paraphrase a Black and beautiful sage, Janet Jackson, they thought they had “Control…lots of it.”

In this instance, they just discovered that white privilege has its limits — thanks to some White governors. With that said, these Deplora-pa-loozas are also dripping with misogyny and sexism — thanks to Trump. #DeploraBros are going apoplectic over Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer giving them orders.

Whitmer’s duties would be limited to serving her husband in a house dress and pearls if these backward men had their way. Instead, she’s providing better leadership than their white supremacist idol.

But they don’t see her as a leader. Apparently, several memos regarding constitutional amendments got lost. Black people and women can now vote as well as lead.

Of course, that pales in comparison to the fact that they don’t see people of color as human. Frighteningly, Trump began not seeing people of color as human. Now, he doesn’t see the more than 32,000 Coronavirus victims as humans — only impediments to his re-election.

White privilege is the privilege to live in your own reality and do as you please.
