“God will interrupt your entire life to get your attention.” Unknown

What if the Scriptures are true? Are you ready if they are? The scriptures tell us that God is a consuming fire. What does that mean? The Greek Word “fire” is “puretos” which pertains to the holiness of God. God is so holy that His purity, His divine nature and Word purifies us from within. So often we look to God’s Word as a suggestion rather than a way of life. “That happened thousands of years ago, it cannot possibly pertain to me today, the people have not experienced the problems that we have today, how could they?” There may be a few commands that you know, perhaps you attended Sunday School as a child. But was God’s All Consuming Fire made a part of you?

Something is brewing in the world

There is no denying at this point that something major is brewing all over the world. Unrest abounds, volcanoes are waking up, earthquakes are on the uptick, floods, so many floods that have claimed the lives of the innocent. Crime is soaring, the common humanity of each person is all but lost, and political strife is at a breaking point. There have been signs in the air, lightning strikes in interesting places, the most notable was a lightning strike on the Washington Monument in DC. Is God saying, “I am coming with My All Consuming Fire?”

Can you feel the change in the spirit?

I’ve mentioned J.R.R. Tolkien before, I am quite certain that God can speak to us from many places, one of those places is indeed the work of a fiction writer who wants to tell the age old story of good versus evil. “The world has changed. I see it in the water. I feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, For none now live who remember it.” Do you feel it? Is there an urgency in your spirit to turn to prayer?  God is speaking to you, dear readers. As He did in the past, He beckons you to turn your eyes towards Jesus, so that the things of the earth will indeed grow strangely dim.

Biblical history can once again be our guide

If you look at Biblical history, God always tried to get the attention of His people before judgement. Idols had invaded every sector of society, they were erected as high places in their lives. When the Israelites were in the wilderness after their grand deliverance from plagues in Egypt, they became complacent waiting on the next move of God. “Where is this so called, ‘promised land?’” They asked. Moses had gone up to the mountain to commune with God Almighty, who had written the 10 commandments with fire; the people became impatient in their waiting. They had orgies, drunkenness and erected a golden calf as their god. They had let the idleness of waiting dictate their faith, or lack of it. What did God do? He consumed those who had not cleaved onto His Words with fire. The earth literally swallowed them up.

God is a consuming fire

The prophets of Baal dared to challenge Elijah, they wailed and prayed to Baal to send fire from heaven and nothing happened. Elijah dug a ditch, filled it with water and prayed for the all consuming fire of God and it came, it consumed everything, licking the very water up from the altar. Why? Because God is holy, He cannot abide sin for an extended period of time without acting. Thank goodness He sent Jesus to die for our sins, I would not want to be the subject of His wrath.

Are you truly ready for what if?

So with the state of the world, are you ready for what if? What if God is trying to get our collective attention through all that is going on in the world at the moment? What if tomorrow, we find ourselves in a similar place of those in times of old? A famine, an earthquake, a time of silence with no internet, civil unrest or any number of events that seem to be at a tipping point right now? The pressure in the bottle of the world is about to burst. Where are you placing your faith if times do become very dark? Will you crumble under pressure or look to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith? Gone are the times when you could maybe crack open a Bible on Sunday, God calls us to walk with Him each and every day. How do we do that? We learn God’s Word.

Paul gave Timothy some wise words

In times past, before the people strayed from God, the people knew the Scriptures and worshiped God. As the times got more comfortable, sin crept in, the small crack in the door was left open and more darkness crept in and started to dim the light. The idols became a place of worship rather than the creator. What does II Timothy 4 tell us?  Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

We need to start asking questions about our faith

It’s time to ask the question, church. Are you ready to trust God when times are difficult? I ask myself that question often, it seems as if the news alone makes me quite on edge. I’ve got to change my mindset to trusting God’s peace. After all, no politician, no amount of screaming, and no worry will change what only God can do in our world. What must we do? Take a close look at the high places (idols) in our lives. Is it social media? Is it anger, sexual sin, alcohol or unforgiveness? I’m not writing this to bring forth fear, but rather to stir your faith. It’s time to crack open the Bible and be ready for, “What if?”

A final prayer

I leave you all with a prayer that I wrote recently. Our Father, our Creator, our All-Sufficient One. I come before You today, with a mind and heart that is well worn. Worn out from the world, worn out from the struggle; worn out from the fear that tomorrow brings with all its troubles. I ask for Your forgiveness for not seeking Your ways, I’ve not looked to You for Your peace and grace. Help me to seek You and walk in Your path. When the world inevitably sneaks in, help me to look to You for my rest. I choose to seek You in the morning, and all through the day. Please come in my life and permeate each and every dark place. I choose to tear down the high places in my life and look to you as my source of light. Thank You Jesus for Your sacrifice and everlasting grace. I choose to follow You all of my days. Amen
