“Prayer does not equip us for the greater work. Prayer is the greater work.” Oswald Chambers

Do you find yourself wringing your hands in despair during the current political situation? You may have had the unfortunate happenstance of reading vile comments from those who say they absolutely love Jesus. Yet the comments? They make you wonder. Or, you have made those comments yourself. In your mind, you rationalize that the leaders are corrupt and perhaps a bit crazy and should be subject to hateful comments. Dear ones, I used to do the same exact thing. I used the “Jesus toppled over the tables in the synagogue” mindset to justify my ugliness. God in His ever loving manner reminded me that this was not the path He had prescribed.

There is nothing new under the sun

I’ve written several articles about history repeating itself over and over. Humanity starts in grateful worship to God, they get comfortable, other gods creep in and evil falls like a never ending set of dominoes. Church, we are in that time again. We may think that we are more civilized and learned, but I’ve got news for you. We are living in new days with age old demons. We’ve lost sight of the plot-the power of prayer. The enemy wants to keep us in constant turmoil and hatred. He wants our words to be just like those who have no knowledge of the King of Kings. We’ve been admonished through Scripture to pray for those in authority over us. After all, “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings,” Daniel 2:21. I’d like to share a prayer with you that was written by the late Reverend Pat Carver.

If you are struggling with feelings for those in elected office who seem past the point of no return. We have a mighty God who will hear our prayer if we call to Him. Let the words of this prayer be a comfort for your Spirit in the might and power of God.

Prayer of Faith for the Nation and our leaders

Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank You for the United States of America (insert your nation’s name). Thank you for the richness of this land in peace and abundance. Thank you for the bulwark of protection You have placed around it. We thank You that You are our Might Fortress and our God. Thank You for being our strength and son and our salvation. Exodus 15:2

Call Upon His Name

We repent of our sins, and call upon Your Name and we thank You for hearing and healing our land. II Chronicles 7:14 We pray for our leaders and those in authority over us on every level. We offer our prayers for them and ask You to save them, and to draw them by Your Spirit to call upon You, and see Your wisdom and good judgement. We thank You they do not sit in the seat of the scornful, or walk in the counsel of the ungodly, but that they delight in Your ways. Psalm 1. Thank you our President is free from the assassin’s bullets, and that You protect him in his spirit, soul, and body. Thank you that all the food he eats is safe and will do only good for his body. Thank You that he has a sound mind, a healed, strong body and gets peaceful, refreshing sleep every night. II Timothy 1:7;I Peter 2:24; Psalm 3:5. Thank you for blessing him with long life. Help us as a Nation, to do all we do as unto You, and not for political or social reasons to impress men. Colossians 3:23. Thank You that You sent Jesus to save us from our sins. Matthew 1:21. These words are still apropos today

This prayer was written in 1982 when I was just a little one, yet even during that time there was a need for prayer for those in authority. Peace doesn’t come from yelling ugly words and division. The peace that passes all understanding comes from Him who sits on the throne above. Will you trust Him to do a mighty work in all the nations of the world? He never lies. He will do His great work again. Selah.
