Yesterday, as I was posting about our new puppy, news reports of an attack on a hotel in Bamako, Mali were hitting the airwaves and news feeds of everybody waking up. It’s not the first attack, in that city, nor likely to be the last.
And, of course, Boko Haram struck again.
Last week I indulged in an autobiographical interlude and gave a “talk” about my growing up in Mali. It’s really more of a question and answer time where you can’t hear the questions. I say ‘um’ a lot. My apologies to my parents for all the errors of dates and ignorance on my part. I know, for instance, that they did not honeymoon in Mexio and I have no idea why I thought I should say that they did.
And finally, two of my favorite books about Africa–gentle, escapist books, beautifully written. The first is West with the Night and the second, which is lovely for children, is The Long Grass Whispers.
Have a lovely Saturday and, if you feel up to it, pray for this gorgeous continent.
