Well, I finished one whole thing (!) so I’m gonna cheat and let myself have just the teeniest blog post. Just three little things on Thursday, and then I will totally get back to regularly scheduled No Blogging.
The First Thing
Hashtag Desolation is trending on twitter right now. Tons of people are posting their #vss (very short stories) using that word. Some of them are sort of interesting, but also every single one is depressing. You know what I’m desolate about? The fact that it snowed all over my gorgeous just blooming Sour Cherry Tree. I was pretty sure I could cover the whole thing with a sheet last night before I went to bed, but nobody would help me. So that rots. I don’t even care that there is sun out now. I feel like Job. That’s how bad it is.

The Second Thing
Poor Jim Baker! All of his accounts have been shut down. Whoever said there was nothing to be happy about anymore? This is worth a big slice of Covid-19 Cake.

The Third Thing
This is pretty interesting (language alert). It’s a big cauldron of pretty astute insight and wild swinging in all directions (I don’t know anything about that). He goes way more left than I would, but I think the underlying thought is probably on track. Here’s a good line:
And what a perfect time for Best Buy and H&M and Wal-Mart to help me feel normal again. If I could just have the new iPhone in my hand, if I could rest my feet on a pillow of new Nikes, if I could drink a venti blonde vanilla latte or sip a Diet Coke, then this very dark feeling would go away.
I was just saying to myself that this little time indoors has been good for at least two reasons—one, America is exhausting, and also, making money, while absolutely necessary, is exhausting. It has to be done, but I’m just wondering if it has to be done with such frantic anxiety. And two, while I don’t buy any of the conspiracies–I don’t think anyone is really organized enough to pull off a worldwide pandemic on purpose (thank heaven)–it is pretty interesting to see all the little tin pot despots emerge. Maybe “little” is the wrong word. Some of them have quite a lot of power. So that’s interesting to observe.
Alright, back to work for me. Maybe I’ll even do another little video this afternoon. The problem with the whole video thing is that I have to comb my hair so I don’t like one of those troll dolls, so that’s super inconvenient. On the other hand, it’s nice to talk, even if it is into a stupid little dot, about something besides who forgot to turn in their homework or who’s turn it is to clean up the horrible offerings of the cat. Have a nice day!
