Not Throwback Thursday

Not Throwback Thursday

It's raining, or will be, and cold. I have to get a morning of school in and then get back to the paint. Nevertheless I was trolling through my archives again this morning looking for something clever for Throwback Thursday only to realize that I don't really want to live the chaos of the past, however funny it may have been. Some of it is funny. Some of it is bla. Lots of it is the regular mire of life with lots of little kids and a church in ongoing growth and crisis. It looks the same as now, really, except that the church is not in crisis and not everything the children say is funny any more. It's long recriminations and negotiations now, and Eye of the Tiger. I'm pretty sure Romulus is supposed to be learning a new song, but all we hear is Eye of the Tiger.

Not that looking at the past would be a bad thing. Just like looking towards the future is not fundamentally wrong. But a lot of the time it's not that helpful. Of course, myopic focus on where you are now can also be a drag. It's possible a balance could be desired. But balance is boring, just like holiness is pretty boring, and not tattling is boring, and just quietly doing your work without freaking out is boring. This must be true because our lives are filled with tattling and freaking out and myopic focus on the self and morbid consideration of the past and despairing concern for the future, plus a lot of sin. Lots and lots and lots of sin. But not really boredom. None of us seem bored.

So, instead of an old blog post, here is an old picture. Have a lovely day! If you want to.
