Good Morning
Looks like I need to hit the ground running so it’s going to be race to see if I can get all the way to seven.
One
Look, I really do have a bunch of white hairs growing right at the top of my head. I know they’re there because I can see them. When I ask people who profess to know and love me for confirmation of the existence of these white hairs, they evade my gaze and insist that they don’t know what I’m talking about. This cowardly custard evasion makes me angry and, sometimes, frantic, because either they’re lying or I’m losing more of my vision, which is worse. The word that comes to mind is GasLighting. Fortunately my youngest child has taken to standing behind my school chair and picking through my fading and thinning tresses (ha) and identifying each single white thread with a cry of alarm. “Here’s Another white one,” she will shout. Turns out there’s even more than I can see in a dimly lit corner with my mirror. Her candor, though, is a huge relief. Because

It’s Not Nice To Lie To People. Really, it isn’t. Everyone thinks it will be easier to tell and to hear a gentle, protecting, ego boosting falsehood, but the truth is better. Its a relief to hear it.
Three
Unless you’ve determined never to hear it, in which case it will make you terribly angry.
Four
But I’m not that person so, Stop Lying to me about the turning white of my hair.

Six
And also I struggle to spend money on my own general upkeep because I am, of course, very Holy and Better Than All Of You, and prefer for my money to go to the Feeding of the Poor and the Upkeep of the Church….unless it’s is beautiful handbag, in which case the poor can….um, I mean, sorry, I think I’m losing my train of thought.
Seven
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go shine a flashlight onto the top of my head and try to count the number of white ones. Go check out more Takes.
