The rain is raining all around and I’ve started to pray about the river, which is very high, being able to stay inside its banks. Having three feet of snow melt off and then many days of rain seems like catastrophe waiting to happen. Anyway, how bout some Takes. One Spent the rest of the day yesterday thinking about Mr. Pence and the Billy Graham Rule, and what’s a Christian to do. Really, of course, it would be better if... Read more

So I guess Mike Pence is in a super weird relationship with his wife where he won’t have dinner out with other women without her, and won’t drink alcohol out without her, and also it looks like asked her to marry him in a super cheesy way. I think the shocking thing, for me, is that there’s a website called AOL.com. Is that for real? Is AOL still out there? That is truly amazing. I think, coupled with this fantastic... Read more

Well, I survived the blood letting and managed to come home and then do nothing else the rest of the day, which, of course, exhausted me. Took the usual nap and went to bed early and then slept bitterly in. Surely answers will be forthcoming today and through the week. Pretty sure I need more something or other than just having my chakras realigned, or something. My doctor yesterday kept saying, and I thought it was pretty great, that ‘the... Read more

I’m pretty sure that this can’t really be a blog today. I am struggling into an awake state without caffeine and am going to have to miss my favorite thing of the week, the thing that keeps me sane, Tuesday Morning Bible Study, in order that I can go have whole vials of blood wrenched from my body. I do just love sitting there watching the life being literally sucked away from me. Anyway, turns out, writing depends on caffeine.... Read more

It occurs to me that the way I title these posts is always about the podcast and never about the links. Like, today the links are not ‘interfaith.’ It’s the Podcast that is about interfaith whatsit. The links are all kinds of fascination. Also, this week, I’m pretty sure that I’m not all the way awake so this podcast is all kinds of weird. Like me snickering about how the world cannot have peace without Jesus. Hey, you’ve gotta take... Read more

I’m not much inclined, in all my spare time, to the reading of sermons, being not very holy at all, although I do occasionally listen to the odd exposition when I get the chance. But there is one sermon which is worthy of being read, all the way through, even on the Internet in very small print. I ran into it a long time ago and in the very middle discovered my life verse, no wait, quote. John Wesley is... Read more

[Too much trouble to carry on and do the head too.] This morning I’ve got to get going and hie myself off to church for a variety of tasks, like cleaning my own Sunday school room and cleaning up the other Sunday school rooms that I discombobulated over the week by letting children go in and by myself going in them. I’m always wandering around looking for stuff–all kinds of stuff. More white paper, matches, a better box of crayons,... Read more

Can I still be blaming stuff on the time change? Pretty sure I can. Going to anyway. One There is literally ice falling from the sky. It’s whacking against my window pane in sharp angular bits. A gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath this is not. Also a deep gray permeates every layer of the landscape, as far the eye can see. I’m not even going to bother trying to find something good about it. Its just very... Read more

So I guess Disney remade Beauty and the Beast. The story, from what I can gather, is that a young woman who likes to read is persecuted by a village that hates that sort of thing, whereupon she has to go live in a castle owned by a human animal hybrid. There are lots of talking dishes, and some songs. And the young woman saves the Beast from himself so that he gets to be human again. All these sentences... Read more

I found out, many hours too late for me to mark the occasion in a timely manner here, that Monday was International Happiness Day. The warm voice of an NPR newscaster filled all the corners of my filthy minivan as I trundled down the highway in the stretching shadows of that first spring evening to take my second daughter to her acrobatics class–the only hour of the week that makes her truly happy. Part of the festivities for International Happiness... Read more
