Boy am I still in a horribly dull stupor. Its kind of a relief that the sun isn't shining because then I would feel like I should stand up and take a walk or something. Anyway, we survived the week. Really, in the most strange way, it was probably one of the best Holy Weeks we've celebrated in an awfully long time. But also, I worked a lot harder than I usually do, which is always an unwelcome surprise. Know... Read more

Alleluia! He is Risen! We’re going to be in Isaiah 55 this evening, which I encourage you to find, as you try to keep your eyes pried open. I know I’m always saying, That’s my favorite passage in the bible but this one is at the top of my list, right now, because the kids and I have been trying to memorize it for the last ten or so months. Isaiah begins in verse one with a cry. Its not... Read more

A blessed and hopeful Good Friday to you all. I've got a thousand things to do, among them standing around being grateful for the incredible work that God did for the world, and for me. See you on the other side.   Read more

In the Spirit of Throwback Thursday and Holy Week together I thought I'd take a pause and reflect, for myself really, on the long road of getting lots of little ones through this week and maybe even, bizarrely, how far we've come. This thought has been percolating for some time in the flabbiness of my mind, since Christmas, really, when I found myself sitting in church, on Christmas Day, with all six of my children wiggling around me. What could... Read more

Some loud bird is squawking just outside my window, though it is yet very dark. Doesn't he realize that it is still winter? That snow is still falling, or did yesterday? That the ground is frozen hard? That he should calm himself, or something, because spring is likely still a long way away? The battle raging, every day, between winter, who won't give up, and spring, or whatever you call it, some foolish green somethings sticking up out of the... Read more

Who am I kidding. I cannot not blog, even if I shouldn't be, even if it's Holy Week. This verse was rattling around in my head yesterday as I tried to muscle a single pair of shoes out of this Wasteland Binghamton, as I visited every single store I could think of with all the children in tow, as I wondered if maybe God hates me and doesn't ever want me to be happy again. Verse Three For you cast... Read more

Blogging may be light this week. Who knows what each moment may bring. It’s always best to hold the whole thing with a light hand, if that is even possible. Nevertheless, and that being so, I am really really really hoping that each moment beings only exactly what I have planned for it to bring. Even with unforeseen surprises along the way, I long for everything to tick along nicely according to my Menu and my Grand Master Plan. Today... Read more

Matt, who wakes up much earlier than I, sent me this nice article to catapult me into the day. I don't know how he found it, or how on earth he thinks it applies to me, except that, wow, sometimes we just enjoy the myriad spectacular insanities of the Internet, and maybe he thought we could enjoy them together. Also, we did go out to lunch this week, so, you know, in that way we have a ephemeral connection to... Read more

Ah, the gentle sound of children screaming at each other over breakfast. Every day I question my new way of letting them get their own breakfasts. Elphine is turning into a bossy tyrant, allowing and disallowing other people to make hot chocolate or put cheese on a bagel. It's my fault, partially. I hold her and Alouicious responsible when I walk in and the kitchen is trashed, since it's their job, so she's mainly trying to defend her turf and... Read more

Having heard there was lamb at Price Rite, Elphine and I popped over there yesterday and gathered both a leg, a boneless roast, and, because we were saving so much money, a large bag of shrimp. The lamb was halal, but I laid it gently over my large package of pork sausages anyway, and the shrimp over that. Freedom in Christ tralala. And we raced in and out of Target and Khols, where we noticed they make it extremely hard... Read more
