Matt cleaned the fridge, made real eggnog and venison chili yesterday. I made stock and did laundry and picked up contacts and took Aloucious back to the dentist and made Salvation Army run and faced down my library sins. Wanted to just give them ten dollars for the book we can't find but in true frugal Binghamton fashion they renewed the book a third time and sent me home to look some more. Hysterical Sobbing. I know we don't have... Read more

Alouicious fell on the ice on Friday, immediately upon sliding his skate happily out, after weeks of joining in the whining that the rink had opened and we weren't on it, and broke off half of his adult front tooth. Later he hung around in my room complaining, “Nonnie and I have everything the same.” “How is that?” I said, because really their lives are incredibly dissimilar. “She has a crooked toe,” he moaned, “and I have a crooked toe.... Read more

In light of it being nearly Thanksgiving, indeed, we are basically celebrating it already with a little two week holiday, I thought it would behoove my general spiritual state to come up with at least seven something's to be thankful for, since I'm such a whiner. Let's see if I can do it without the shedding of blood. One As some commercial or other says (look at me, so hip and with it, watching tv and knowing what commercials there... Read more

Is it already Thursday? That's too bad. Was trying to “sleep in” on my little school holiday but Baby Elspeth is lying here singing really loud and ruining it. I just realized that she sleeps in her shoes. Whatever shoes they are. She loves shoes so much that she doesn't take them off to go to sleep. Should I yell at her at night to make sure and take off her shoes? Prolly not. Who cares. I guess. I mean,... Read more

I don’t have much of a chance to read a book or watch tv or movies or anything. I mostly run around after my six children yelling at them to Pick Up, pick up your sock, your shoes, hang up your coat, put away your toys, your books. All the time, pick up. So I don’t sit down much but I happened to the other day and I saw a Christmas themed advertisement. It was a brightly dressed cheerful lady,... Read more

We're very very busy and we've got a lot to do and we've barely got a minute to explain it all to you….wonderful song, if you ever get a chance to hear it. Kevin Klein (is that his name?) singing on a Sandra Boynton album. Before this song there's Kate Winslet singing I Need a Nap. Goodness, I must drop everything and go dig this up and listen to it. Except that before that I need to construct a little... Read more

One A dusting of snow. It is very pretty. I will grant you that. Very picturesque. Didn't feel that way last night as I tried to drag the dog out for his evening walk. He trudged along well behind me and then finally just started going home, pulling whimpishly on his leash and glaring at me with his teeth. Who am I to insist? Now he is pressing himself against me under the blanket. I'm sure I'm going to have... Read more

We've possibly escaped the snow for a couple of days. Nearly did pray that it would go away but forgot in being busy with something else. It's not the snow, though, I think, that causes my true bitter grief through the winter, although, believe me, I really feel it is the devil's brew. I imagine myself, as I drive through the grey and brown sludge, like Judas, gnawing at my own cold flesh, frozen with despair in the lowest level... Read more

Was meant to make pie yesterday for the Harvest Dinner but forgot to buy squash or pumpkin or anything, even after going to the store expressly for that purpose, and then got started making bread and so didn't go back to the store. Spiraled down into a vanity of cooking. Anyway, once oatmeal has been made, bread necessarily comes next. I hate oatmeal. There's no way I'm ever going to eat it. But I do force the children to occassionally... Read more
