Day Thirty-Five II Kings 3:11 And Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of The Lord here, through whom we may inquire of The Lord?” Ahab and Jehoshaphat sit in their great chairs and consider the battle before them. Their alliance is suspect, a dubious and compromising friendship. Jehoshaphat should know better. Desiring both to serve God but to have good relationships with his neighbors in the world, he teeters on the brink of unfaithfulness and trouble. Is there no prophet,... Read more

One Really desperately trying to get work done on Catechesis today so that when I start school next week I won’t feel guilty about not doing Catechesis and then when I’m doing working on Catechesis I won’t feel guilty about not doing school and then when I’m doing school I won’t feel guilty about not doing Catechesis….. Two Earlier this week was national dog day or something and I happened to snap this {cough} Three Started Solemn Communion last night.... Read more

It occurred to me yesterday, as I was driving around trying to do some various odd errands while also concentrating on breathing in and out past this wretched cold, that the idea of corporate guilt is a clever ruse. I'm probably going to offend a bunch of people here, but I'll just try to sketch it out anyway and see where it takes me. In seminary the liturgy, if that's really what it could properly be called, that we had... Read more

The internet is being pokey and weird, plus it's 7am and all the children are all still sleeping. The dog is gazing at me sadly because I haven't gotten up yet either. Is it already that Fall/Wintery place where we can't get up because of it being cold and dark? Feel like offering up some kind of primeval sacrifice in a desperate way to keep the sun from leaving us all in cold wintry death. Don't worry, I won't actually... Read more

Making all kinds of efforts to put things in order this week before I actually do start school next week. I think I've mentioned this before but I used to just plough forward doing everything at once–school, reorganization of the entire horse, fifty two jobs at church, tralalala–and being totally frustrated at everything. Surprisingly discovered over time that I do better if the house is functioning in some kind of “order”, not that everything is perfectly put away, but that... Read more

Kept a sort of running blog last week, adding to it on and off, and so here it is. It was really restful, actually, not to truely blog, even though it’s one of my favorite things in the whole world, just like it was nice not to cook, even though I love cooking. A beautiful week in a beautiful place. And now back to reality. Arriving We are ensconced in a cunning cabin/room with all sorts of cupboards and shelves... Read more

Day Thirty-Four II Kings 2:12 And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. A double measure of blessing. A greater amount of power. Elisha wanted the blessing and glory of God that had been on Elijah to fall on him. Elisha follows after Elijah, running after the Lord's strength, the Lord's word, keeping up, breathless. If you see me caught up, says Elijah, if... Read more

Just typed out all the numbers for seven quick takes and then thought, I don't think I can make it to seven. That's so many. Maybe sometime Jen could shake it up and do one quick take, or really live wildly and do three. Especially since my takes are falling into the same pattern over and over–funny things the children say, weird things in the bible, how did the week go, etc. Perhaps it gets boring. It must occassionaly be... Read more

The summer cold is trying to kill me. Each day I think it can't get worse and then it does. All the work I planned to do to get ready for fall Sunday school has completely fallen away and I've wandered around in stupid coughing circles, losing important items, like my journal/school planner, the music for Sunday, my Solemn Communion folder and my good sissors. Finally gave up yesterday and lay back on the gross school room couch and read... Read more

Lately I've been overwhelmed and exhausted by Facebook, and really the news in general. I can't imagine that I'm the only one. For one whole day I had to completely avoid facebook because of the pictures of Iraqi children…I can't even say it. Then I read a really good article juxtaposing that, those Iraqi children, with all of our millions of slain children. It doesn't look as brutal because nobody is in there taking pictures. Either way, this person pointed... Read more
