Day Thirty-Three I Kings 21:5 But Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him, “Why is your spirit so vexed that you eat no food?” But he said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money, or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it.'” Jezebel is a good wife. Her poor husband is cast down, his soul laid low, his heart... Read more

Went out to dinner last night to celebrate being married so long. Matt wore an actual tie, which was really too fancy for anywhere in this town, but charming anyway. Along the meme of Men Are Human, it Is always Matt who organizes these little excursions, who checks the money, strong arms a baby sitter, who dresses up and guilts me out of my jeans and into a dress, even though I whine and complain desperately every time. I’m not... Read more

Matt fancied up my tea tray this morning. I don't get this cup out very often because I know eventually I will break it. Hopefully not today. Lucky for us both, I remembered about it being our anniversary today, yesterday just before the birthday/anniversary prayers in church. So we were prayed for, mercifully, and can do something fun today instead of going along as if it is no big deal. My previous idea of spending the day mucking out the... Read more

One I’m not sure if I can come up with seven whole takes today. Matt very lovelingly placed my regular modicum of tea next to my bed this morning but when I went to pour the milk I discovered there was and continues to be none. And all the girls are still asleep and all the boys at bible study, so I have to just lie here parched and asleep, because of their being no way to aquire the milk... Read more

Everyone is still solidly sleeping–a great unparalleled miracle, the result of children kept up late to learn about Jesus. Three days of VBS down. One more to go. One “baby” who didn't take a nap any of those days and went full throttle into the mob of children and story and snack and games and singing, with nary a glance back. When asked if she is tired she plunks down on the floor and wails, “NOOOOOO. I NOT TIRED.” One... Read more

Wednesdays are piano day. The piano teacher comes at 8:40 after already being at other people's houses much earlier than that. She breezes in, awake and cheerful, and the children gaze at her in their early morning stupor, clutching their massive mugs of tea and coffee, squabbling about who will go first. From 8:40 to 10, one by one, they sit and plunk out whatever it is, the teacher occasionally taking over and playing a snatch of something real, then... Read more

Without really meaning to, I used up all my blog moments yesterday trying to get a new header picture up, which I did, but then I also seemed to have switched from one theme to another, then forgot what the first one was, then got further confused and tumbled down many other rabbit holes. Did finally get rid of a large picture of some flowers because Matt, wandering in to ask me what on earth I was doing, said he... Read more

Day Thirty I King 14:12-13 Arise, therefore, go to your house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die. And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something pleasing to The Lord, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. The Lord sees everything there is to see. The inmost parts of the earth, the smallest insect that flits... Read more

One Praise The Lord July is over. A couple more days of painting and then I hope never to find myself painting again, at least for a long while. I have paint in my hair, to match my gathering streak of gray7QT, and paint on my nails, and paint in my sinuses. And while I’ve been doing the painting the house has rapidly devolved into a place of dirt and chaos and disorder and sadness. Oh well. Two Some interesting... Read more

It's raining, or will be, and cold. I have to get a morning of school in and then get back to the paint. Nevertheless I was trolling through my archives again this morning looking for something clever for Throwback Thursday only to realize that I don't really want to live the chaos of the past, however funny it may have been. Some of it is funny. Some of it is bla. Lots of it is the regular mire of life... Read more
