Gospel Music Week – Tuesday

Gospel Music Week – Tuesday April 5, 2006

You never know that when you go about your work doing interviews and such, that sometimes you’ll be able to help people out of some hairy situations, like one group we “rescued” today. We had a lot of good laughs about it later but when the group’s previous interview came time for an end and the publicist came in to say it’s over, the interviewer said “no.” So the group really had to be “rescued” from the media. Here we are soon after the rescue took place, during the most fun interview I’d had in a long time. These guys (Big Daddy Weave) actually thought I was funny.

I was also able to talk to Mac Powell and Mark Lee from Third Day (Mac got a call from Rick & Bubba who were on the air trying to find someone to tell them why they weren’t invited back to the Doves), new group Decyfer Down, Rueben Morgan, John Cooper of Skillet (we talked X-Men movies), Selah and Jared Anderson (Desperation Band). I was also able to catch up with some buddies, like Hawk Nelson’s Jason and Daniel, Family Force 5’s Olds Brothers, Jason Crabb, Danielle Kimmey, Russ and Mary Lee, Paul Baloche (my friend Shannon put together an awesome lunch for us), Sarah Kelly and Day of Fire’s Josh Brown (we compared notes on MySpace):

I saw some great performances today and kinda hopped around to different showcases tonight. The most incredible and unexpected one was Sheldon Reynolds who was in both the Commodores and Earth, Wind And Fire, who broke into a classic EWF song “September.” It was awesome. I also saw BarlowGirl, Building 429, Bryan Duncan, Kevin Max and probably the most energetic of all – Hawk Nelson and Falling Up. I snapped this great shot of the latter group:

Funniest item of the day is when one of the Weaver brothers in Big Daddy Weave was talking about his wife being pregnant and said, “I’m about 20 months myself!”
Tomorrow it’s just a few interviews and meetings, then off to the Doves tomorrow night. I’ll take plenty of pictures and try to put some on here soon. Thanks for reading!
