Theme Park Survival Bag

Theme Park Survival Bag
Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved going to theme parks. Growing up outside of Atlanta, one of my favorite summer escapes was Six Flags Over Georgia. The one summer I saved enough money for a season’s pass, I was so thrilled.
In the future, I’ll post about my favorite rides and parks, but I thought it would be useful to share some of the favorite things I pack into a bag to carry with me when preparing for a day of fun.

Ponchos – Sure, they sell them at the stores for two or three times the price, but you can find throwaway versions at the dollar store before you go. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain on your park parade but if it does, you’re prepared. I keep extras in the bag for friends. I know, I’m quite the humanitarian.

Zip Lock Bags – Even if it isn’t raining, if you want to keep your cell phone or digital camera in your pocket and still want to ride Thunder River (maybe next year, Atlanta) or Jurassic Park, put ’em inside a bag and worry no more.

Tiny umbrella – I carry this in case it’s super hot and I don’t want the poncho.

Flip Flops – If you wear sandals, don’t worry about it. But for me, when my sneakers get wet, by the time we go home, my feet are waterlogged and wrinkled. Before I do water rides, I switch them out for flip flops.

Bathing suit – I switch this out for my cotton shorts when hitting a water ride.

Souvenir Cups – Yes, you know those overpriced cups they want to sell you a half gallon of Coke in. I save them, take them home and wash them and put them back in the bag so I can get .50 cent refills through the day.

Handheld game – Okay, this is technically in my cell phone but if you have a fun handheld game like a Yahtzee or other battery-operated fun, it’s a good thing to pull out during extra long lines. Makes the wait go by so much faster. LeAnn and I had a great time playing “Monopoly” in line for Spider-Man.

Of course, there are many other things you might want to put in your bag, but these are just a few that have been helpful to me. As far as I know, you can’t bring in food or drink items, so keep that in mind when planning.
