Angel Studios, Wonder Project Announce ‘Young Washington’ 2025-07-02T21:34:41-04:00

“Young Washington,” a bold cinematic undertaking honoring America’s most iconic founding father is set to ignite theaters nationwide on the nation’s 250th birthday.

Angel Studios and Wonder Project announced Wednesday a landmark partnership to release the new film, a sweeping new historical drama chronicling the rise of a young George Washington. The film, helmed by “Jesus Revolution” and “I Can Only Imagine” director Jon Erwin, is scheduled to premiere nationwide on Independence Day weekend, 2026. Production is set to begin later this summer.

In an unprecedented move, tickets are already available—one full year in advance—via Angel Studios’ proprietary ticketing platform, a move the studios say reflects their mission to engage audiences early and often.

“Our shared commitment to inspirational, powerful storytelling made ‘Young Washington’ an easy project to partner on,” said Angel Studios President Jordan Harmon. “George Washington helped shape the very values America holds dear. There is no more fitting way to mark our nation’s 250th birthday than with this story of his early triumphs and failures.”

“Young Washington” explores the untold journey of a 22-year-old George Washington—brash, ambitious, and deeply flawed—who unwittingly ignites the French and Indian War with a costly mistake. Forced to confront the weight of his actions, Washington must rise from disgrace to become the leader destined to unite a fledgling nation.

“I’ve dreamed of telling Washington’s origin story for nearly a decade,” said Erwin. “This is more than a film—it’s a celebration of the American spirit, the resilience of leadership, and the miracle of our nation’s founding. I can’t imagine better partners than the pioneers at Angel.”

The film is being produced by Chip Diggins and Erwin, alongside Benton Crane of 10 Ton Productions and Tyler Zacharia of 2521 Entertainment. Angel Studios will handle worldwide distribution.

At Wonder Project, the announcement represents another step in reimagining faith-based and historical storytelling for a modern audience.

“Innovation is central to everything we do—both in the stories we tell and how we connect them to communities,” said Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, CEO of Wonder Project. “By offering tickets a full year early, we’re inviting families and groups to rally around a cinematic moment that celebrates where we came from.”

Harmon added, “No film to date has done justice to Washington’s legacy. This one will.”

Angel’s ticketing platform also allows ticket holders to modify their viewing date and time post-purchase—what the studio calls a “fan-first feature” designed to empower viewers with flexibility and control.

Additional casting and production updates are expected in the coming months as anticipation builds toward the 2026 release.

“Young Washington” aims to blend epic scale, emotional depth, and patriotic fervor into a defining cinematic tribute as America marks two and a half centuries of independence.
