GMA Week 2005 – Wednesday Wrap-Up D(ove) Day

GMA Week 2005 – Wednesday Wrap-Up D(ove) Day

As usual, D-Day was pretty slow for most everyone. Since the Doves are like the prom or something, everyone cuts out of Nashville around noon and artists are hardly anywhere to be seen. I did have an early interview with rock group Pillar after I left the Word New Music Seminar (where I heard from Big Daddy Weave, BarlowGirl, Mark Shultz and more).
Always a highlight of Dove day is hanging out with my good friends Tina and Tonya. This year was our 7th or 8th annual pre-Dove luncheon. They’re so nice because they laugh at what I say and at least act genuinely interested in my long stories. 🙂
What can I say about the Doves? It was good to see everyone, although we didn’t see much of the broadcast. Here are some observations:
-The press room was entirely too crowded and my friend and I got trampled by people who considered the area behind our chairs a hallway. This was okay for the first few hundred times but after leaning so much, I wondered if I was ever going to be able to sit straight again.
-Perhaps my smeller’s off but I think there was one woman filled with something other than THE Spirit . . . maybe a spirit. I had no idea who she was and I wondered if she just wandered in (which would also make this a little distressing). She came up to me and asked what was going on here tonight.
-Got to talk and congratulate my friends Josh and Greg from Day of Fire on Best Rock Album, Jason Crabb and company for their many awards and shook hands with Wynonna Judd, who was cordial but certainly not intrigued to conversation.
-I like Skillet and all but one of them made some (supposedly humorous) comments about girl singers (he’s married by the way) like Rebecca St. James.
I attempted once again to party-hop but spent more time at the Provident party and then when I hit the others, they were dwindling or packing it in. At the Provident party, it was so nice to see everyone relaxing and enjoying the fruit of the company’s labor, who had a good night as far as awards go. I had a picture made with some of my buddies from Overflow and Olivia the band (picture). The party was in a historial mansion (Two Rivers Mansion) near the Opryland hotel and it had some great food like a chocolate fountainwith all sorts of dipping items. I was once again encouraged to stick my tongue in the fountain, even had a photographer lined up but I enjoy getting invited so I behaved. I went in the Word party and saw a couple dozens folks and drove by Rocketown for the Integrity/INO party but they were closed.
