Benjamin Raven Pressley is an author, teacher, and spiritual guide. He is of Cherokee heritage. He has been a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the apostles since 1975. His independent studies include the Holy Bible as well as other holy books of other religions. He is ordained by the Universal Life Church. He is a self-taught naturalist and his love and respect for nature is evident in many of the things he writes.
Raven has authored several books on spirituality, as well as a fantasy series and books on survival skills. He does not consider himself to be a religious person but believes true spirituality is an all-encompassing view of life and invites open discussion on matters of spirituality. Raven is also a believer and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. Raven believes there is a balance to be struck between our mental, physical, social and spiritual selves. Raven believes all people, regardless of gender, race, etc. should be treated equally and taught to reach their full potential.
When asked what Raven likes about contributing to Patheos, he said, “I love being part of a community of people that are thinkers and don’t just blindly follow a religion. I love being part of a magazine that is unafraid of putting the views of spiritually-minded thinkers out there and letting readers decide for themselves.”
He offers this advice to other Patheos contributors, “Strive to write in a respectful and intelligent manner and not generalize any particular set of people or belief system. Let readers see we are thinkers and intelligent and that God does have a place in modern-day society. Don’t be preachy. Also, proofread what you submit thoroughly. Patheos is a quality publication, and it reflects on everyone when your submission is full of typos. And enjoy writing, it isn’t about the money per se it is an opportunity to get your message out to a large audience.”
