Father Nicholas SheehyFr. Nicholas Sheehy is a Catholic priest for the Legionaries of Christ since 2013. At 18 years of age, he joined the Legionaries of Christ, and his formation has taken him around the world. He has directed teams for youth work, including missions, retreats and apostolic outreach in Germany, Italy, the United States and Central America. Fr. Nicholas served for three years on the formation team of the Legionaries of Christ Novitiate and College of Humanities in Cheshire, Connecticut.

Fr. Nicholas is passionate about the New Evangelization and formation for young adults. He is currently an Assistant Chaplain at Duke Catholic Center. Fr. Nicholas enjoys sharing spiritual topics and examining issues of current events under the lens of Catholic anthropology. He holds a licentiate in philosophy and a Master’s in psychology.

Fr. Nicholas finds inspiration in the words of St. Augustine, “Omnis enim res quae dando non deficit, dum habetur et non datur, nondum habetur quomodo habenda est.” who teaches that we only truly possess the knowledge that we give to others. His goal is to grow spiritually and to share with others the spiritual riches he discovers.

Fr. Nicholas’ hobbies include cycling, reading about space and astronomy, and languages. He is an avid baseball fan, especially of the San Diego Padres.

When asked about writing for Patheos, Fr. Nicholas said, “I like writing for Patheos because it gives me a larger platform to engage with readers about the faith. I think in our world, it is easy for faith to disappear from the public square and Patheos offers an opportunity to bring it back to people’s awareness.”

Fr. Nicholas offers this up to other Patheos contributors, “I don’t know that I am in a place to offer advice, but I think we can all benefit from thinking deeply about the topics we are interested in and share our reflections with others. We are doing them a service by thinking deeply about the issues that are affecting all of us.”
